About This Plant
The Mamey Sapote is a large evergreen tropical tree that produces large, brown, fuzzy fruit with a deep golden red-orange, smooth yet slightly granular pulp. It is known for a rich, sweet, almond-like dessert fruit flavor and is popular in the Caribbean. Trees have a thick central trunk with a full, open canopy of long dark green leaves. Small white flowers form abundantly in clusters toward the ends of stems. Fruit is typically 3 to 8 inches long and 1 to 6 pounds, and the tree can fruit prolifically when mature, producing 200 to 500 fruits in a season.
