About This Plant
The Wild Lime (Zanthoxylum fagara), also known as Satin Wood and Prickly Ash, is an aromatic evergreen small tree or shrub native to Florida. It features sharp, thorny branches and lacey, compound foliage. It is a dioecious member of the Rutaceae family with year-round yellow-green flower clusters at the leaf axil. The edible fruit has a lemon zest flavor with a numbing quality. Dried leaves are sometimes used as a spice, and the wood has historical value for furniture and bows. The bark, fruit, and leaves can be ground into a powder used as a spice. This plant can be pruned into hedges or kept in a container.
