About This Plant
Betel Leaf (Piper betle) is native to Southeast Asia. The heart-shaped leaves have a mild peppery aroma when crushed and are traditionally used in Ayurvedic practice, for oral hygiene and digestion, and as an antiseptic for treating pimples or small scrapes. It is very ornamental and can climb quickly with a trellis, often grown along temple grounds, and is related to Lolot, Hoja Santa, and Black Pepper.
