About This Plant
Red Tiger Darjeeling Banana (Musa sikkimensis) is a rare Himalayan banana species known for its tropical-looking red-striped leaves with burgundy undersides. It is described as cold hardy, capable of thriving in zone 5, and can reach up to 12 feet tall with wind-resistant foliage. Plants are grown for ornamental tropical beauty, with fruit that is edible but not very sweet. The variety is noted as fast-growing, with potential to reach full size in 2-3 years and to die back in winter in cold climates, regrowing in spring.
