About This Plant

Gunnera manicata, also known as Dinosaur Food or Giant Rhubarb, is a prehistoric, architectural perennial with enormous, deeply lobed leaves up to 6 feet across and tall stalks up to 10 feet. It thrives in moist, boggy soil and is ideal for ponds, damp garden spaces, or as a dramatic specimen plant in large areas. Produces distinctive red-brown flowers and later small red fruits. Hardy in zones 6-11 with winter protection.

What You Will Receive

25 Gunnera manicata seeds. Seed form; not a rooted plant or cutting. Requires germination time of 15 to 90 days with soaking and warm temperatures for best results.

Growing or Planting Information

Germination tips: soak seeds, keep moist (not wet), and provide bottom heat (68-77°F). So patience is required as germination can take 15 to 90 days. Plant in partial to full sun with consistently moist or boggy soil. Provide enough space and moisture for this very large perennial.
